The UNESCO Géoparc de Haute-Provence is located in the Southern Alps, at the northern edge of Provence, in the Alpes de Haute Provence department.
It is located equidistant from Nice, Marseille and Grenoble (150 km), and it is organized around the town of Digne-les-Bains, the capital of Alpes de Haute
Provence.
It varies in altitude between 400 and 2961 meters above the sea level.
The Geopark is easily accessible by main roads and by the main highway between Marseille and Gap.
A local railway links Digne with Nice, on the coast.
The Geopark covers the western part of the
Geological National Nature Reserve of Haute
Provence, managed exclusively by the County Council. It covers 6 of inter-municipalities of Alpes de Haute Provence department, covering 1,989 km2, 60 municipalities and 43,000 inhabitants.
