The ichthyosaurus fossils at the Le Col du Jas mountain-pass is one of the eighteen sites classified as a National Geological Nature Reserve managed by Alpes de Haute Provence County Council. Since 2018, respectful infrastructure has been put in place ensuring the physical protection of the ichthyosaurus fossil site, while also enabling the public to visit and discover the fossilised skeleton of a large marine reptile that lived in the Jurassic Sea around 180 million years ago.
